SHORT WORKSHOPS this weekend in Inistioge, Co. Kilkenny - BATIK, FELT MAKING, HAND PAPERMAKING - Create your own unique CHRISTMAS Decorations and Gifts!!

Dear Everyone,

Four workshops are coming up this weekend in Inistioge - a great chance to make those unique Christmas decorations and gifts while learning a new skill and creative process!!!

There are only two places left available on each PAPERMAKING course on Sunday and three places on the BATIK and on the FELT MAKING workshop:


9th NOVEMBER (Saturday)
10.30am - 1pm: BATIK (a traditional, ancient technique of dyeing and decorating fabrics using hot wax as a resist and fabric dyes)
2.30 - 5pm: FELT MAKING (traditional processes of wet felting, using pure sheep`s wool, olive oil soap and water - ideal for making that handmade gift)


10th NOVEMBER (Sunday)
10.30am - 1pm: HAND PAPERMAKING (traditional and contemporary techniques for making beautiful, textured and decorated handmade papers from pure plant fibres and recycled materials)
2.30 - 5pm: SILK FIBRE PAPERMAKING (contemporary techniques used in silk papermaking using raw silk fibres with fabric dyes; creating colourful, striking decorations!)

These workshops are designed to suit beginners and those with some previous experience – participants will have the opportunity to create unique, handmade Christmas decorations and gifts while learning a new skill and technique.

Workshop Fees are very reasonably calculated with discounts to suit all pre-Christmas budgets:

THE BUTTERFLY PROJECT - August 2013

THE BUTTERFLY PROJECT     |      TUNDE TOTH

The BUTTERFLY PROJECT is an Interactive Installation Project - developed by visual artist TUNDE TOTH.
Inspired by workshops facilitated as part of the National Drawing Day events at the Butler Gallery in Kilkenny City in 2013, this programme is designed to take these workshops to a different level creating an ongoing, interactive, inclusive, participatory project `moving` between two venues and featured in two arts festivals in Co. Kilkenny. The project started at The Abhainn Ri Festival in Callan in July and continues at Tunde`s temporary exhibition space in Thomastown during the 40th Kilkenny Arts Festival.

Visitors and workshop participants are invited to contribute to the large scale, ongoing indoor/outdoor installation by making striking, colourful butterflies – using traditional Origami techniques, contemporary Silk Fibre Papermaking processes and plaster cloth sculpting/modelling.


CALLAN Programme - Phase 1:
29th - 30th - 31st July (Mon-Tues-Wed): 1 - 4pm
This programme is not a workshop schedule, it is run on a `drop-in, drop-out` basis through each afternoon. Visitors are invited to participate and add their own creations to the installation. 
Origami: € 5 per person
Silk Fibre Papermaking: € 9 per person - including materials and your own small butterfly to take with you.


THOMASTOWN Programme - Phase 2 - WORKSHOPS:
6th – 7th – 8th August (Tues-Wed-Thurs):  11am – 1pm
12th – 13th – 14th August (Mon – Tues – Wed):  11am – 1pm
€ 15 per participant per day, including all materials and your own unique butterfly to take with you!
This is a family oriented programme: all workshops are suitable for children from 7 years of age, young people and adults!

FOLLOW-ON COURSE on HAND PAPERMAKING TECHNIQUES and CONTEMPORARY PAPER ART:

This is an advanced level course suitable for participants with some previous experience in hand papermaking processes (traditional or contemporary); 
it is also designed to suit those of you who have participated at any of my papermaking/paper art courses previously.

The workshop is tailored to the interests and needs of those attending, 
offering a creative space, time and professional advice for working on individual ideas.

Processes and areas covered (priorities will be given upon request):
  • Three dimensional and sculptural works; moulded, shaped, textured paper projects
  • Handmade papers for artworks and crafts: intaglio printmaking, calligraphy, painting/drawing/writing/bookmaking etc.
  • Ideas and planning for installation projects and large scale works
  • Preparation for various projects using pure plant material: preparation of plant pulps without the use of chemicals; combination of pulps and silk fibre papers;
  • Paper sizing, strengthening, dyeing, painting; 
  • Batik on handmade plant and silk papers;
  • Hand Papermaking in primary school education and community art projects 
Participants are invited and encouraged to bring their own works/ideas/plans/sketches/questions etc with them - 
we would love to see what are you working on and what are you interested in!

The course is designed for a small group so places are limited. 
This programme is only available once or twice in a year so please call to book your place as soon as possible!!

Workshop Fee: € 75 for the full day, INCLUDING ALL MATERIALS, coffee/tea/refreshments.

Southpaw Studio is studio/creative space in Waterford City, specializing in art printing and creative writing,
created and managed by artist Martin Fahy.
Martin`s aim is to encourage and assist people to be creative no matter their background or ability.
The project is supported by Waterford City Council & Arts office.

There are two evening courses coming up in Dublin 2, at The CENTRE FOR CREATIVE PRACTICES
starting on Monday 11th of February!

The first course is a Professional Development Programme for Artists and Crafts People - specifically designed for people involved in creative practices and industries.



PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSE for Artists - 11th, 18th, 25th February, 5 - 6.30 pm 
“Artists as Educators:
Planning and Delivering Arts Education Programmes for Children”
Facilitator: Tunde Toth – Visual Arts Practitioner and Educator

Aim and objective of the workshop:
To provide practical and useful information, guidelines and advice to artists and crafts people in the planning and delivering of art educational programmes for primary school age children in various settings. This workshop is particularly aimed for creative practitioners who are at the beginning of their careers as educators or facilitators. 
The programme offers practical help and advice on all the "how to" and also covers: 
  • Source and development of workshop and project ideas
  • Guidelines: best practice, child protection training and policy, insurance
  • Getting involved in projects and programmes that are already in place in various education settings, arts organizations, venues and events in Ireland
  • Visual Arts Curriculum – Primary Schools
  • Promotion, administration, relevant time management
  • Documentation, evaluation


    EVENING COURSE on SILK FIBRE PAPERMAKING -11th, 18th, 25th February, 7 - 8.30pm
    Tutor:  Tunde Toth – Visual Arts Practitioner

    This course introduces two techniques used in contemporary Silk Fibre Papermaking and the last workshop includes a slideshow presentation on contemporary paper arts.

    Using a variety of natural materials – raw silk fibres, cocoon strippings, hand dyed silk tops, throwsters fibres, silk threads...etc – participants will create plain or colourful, textured, decorative, ``fabric – like`` papers.
    These unique pieces are suitable for writing, painting, printmaking (dry point and carborundum works well, with unusual textures) textile art- and collage works, stitching, embroidery and are ideal for 3 dimensional, sculptural projects and installations.
    The course also offers an insight into experimental processes, decorating methods and ideas using fibre reactive textile dyes on silk papers.

    This course is suitable for beginners and participants with some previous experience in papermaking, fibre- and paper arts.


    FEES: € 110 / € 95 (con.) per participant for the 3 sessions of each course, INCLUDING all materials and printouts
