6 May (Saturday): PAPER MAKING DAYBeginners

10am - 1pm HAND PAPER MAKING - Introduction to traditional and contemporary techniques of making beautiful handmade papers from pure plant fibres of cotton and mulberry bush and a range of recycled materials.
Participants will learn about basic processes, pulp making, suitable materials and the use of plant fibre linters.
Inclusions and decorative methods are also covered.
2.30 – 5.30pm SILK FIBRE PAPERMAKING - A truly fascinating, contemporary technique for making `fabric-like`, light weight, colourful silk papers using a selection of raw silk fibres and fabric dyes. Easy to continue and set up at home, this process is ideal to create unique interior decorations and striking silk papers for artworks, embroidery, collages...etc.

10.30am – 1.30pm HAND PAPER MAKING – FOLLOW-ON / ADVANCED Level Course
Participants with previous experience
This course is suitable for those with experience and/or their own artistic practice in areas of hand paper making and fibre arts.  The workshop focuses on silk fibre paper making processes, three dimensional forms and Batik/ Wax techniques on Handmade Papers.
2.30 – 5.30pm BATIK – Beginners
Introducing traditional and contemporary processes of Batik – an ancient fabric dyeing technique where hot wax is used as a resist on cloth. The workshop covers different wax applications (brush, Tjanting, stamp) and participants will work on small pieces applying two layers of wax and two colours.

9 July (Sunday)

10.30am – 1.30pm HAND PAPER MAKING – FOLLOW-ON Course – Participants with some previous experience
This workshop offers an introduction to three dimensional/sculptural processes using paper making methods and materials – with an experimental approach. Ideal for those who previously participated in short paper making workshops – this course takes basics techniques further and offers guidance and advice.
2.30 – 5.30pm FELT MAKING – Beginners
Wet felting using dyed and undyed Merino wool and silk fibres: this workshop covers basic techniques of felt making. Participants will design create a small felted picture and a three dimensional piece.

11 June (Saturday): EMBROIDERY- Beginners
10.30am – 5pm
Tutor: ALEXIS BERNSTORFF, artistic director of the ROS TAPESTRY
This workshop will teach 6 principal stitches and their variations - using wool, cotton/silk and metallic threads. Participants will be inspired by a range of techniques to realise various designs. Alexis has 15 years experience teaching crewelwork embroidery and is the guide behind the dynamics of the Ros Tapestry. 
€ 70 for the full day - including all materials

The workshop introduces wet felting techniques using dyed and un-dyed Merino wool and silk fibre inclusions.
Learn to design and make a unique wall piece or a small but beautiful felted bag. Participants will make a small practice piece before progressing to a larger project.
€ 75 for the full day, including all materials

17 July (Sunday)
10.30am – 5.30pm Paper Making and Paper Art Follow-on Course – Advanced Level

Designed for participants who already work with paper/fibre based processes, this course offers assistance and guidance in areas of three dimensional, sculptural and installation based works, experimental processes of batik, wax based works on paper, paper dyeing and texturing. It also covers ideas for the preparation and use of plant based pulps (without added chemicals). Participants are encouraged to bring their own ideas and questions into the workshop and invited to show and discuss previous works and projects.
Places are limited for 5 participants.
€ 80 for the full day, including all materials

Experimental PAPER ART and HAND PAPER MAKING - ADVANCED LEVEL Course 23 March 2014 - with Tunde Toth Artist

We have 2 (!!) places left available on the upcoming advanced level PAPER ART Course on the 23rd of March!
DETAILS:


PAPER ART and HAND PAPERMAKING – ADVANCED level course

23 MARCH (Sunday) 10.30am - 5.30pm
 
This is a full day course with an experimental approach; designed for participants with experience in Hand Papermaking and for those who took part in previous papermaking workshops. The programme is tailored to the interests and preferences of those attending, offering skills and professional guidance in the following areas:
·         Sculptural/three dimensional/installation based work – and relevant           preparation and drying processes
·         Batik (incl. various wax applications) on handmade fibre papers
·         Silk Fibre Paper projects
·         Paper dyeing/decorating
·         Handmade papers from mixed plant pulps – without using chemicals
·         Large scale papermaking – strengthening – paper sizing
·         Hand papermaking in various educational settings

Participants are asked and encouraged to bring their own ideas, questions, previous works, unfinished experiments etc. with them.
PLEASE NOTE that this course has limited places available.
Fee: € 75 for the full day – INCLUDING all materials
Workshop Fees INCLUDE:  ALL ART MATERIALS, the use of all tools and equipment, refreshments at the studio
