NATIONAL DRAWING DAY at the National Craft Gallery, Kilkenny 22 May 2010

Hello Everyone,

There is an exciting day of creative and alternative drawing workshops coming up at The National Craft Gallery - Crafts Council of Ireland - in Kilkenny!

National Drawing Day is held on the Saturday of the 22nd of May with the participation of galleries and various arts venues throughout the country.

To mark National Drawing Day the National Craft Gallery is holding a fun day of drawing workshops in the Castle Yard and National Craft Galleries. These drawing workshops will involve the use of textiles and stitch drawing and will form the basis for an exciting day of alternative drawing techniques and mark making.

ALL events are FREE

To book a place please contact Leslie Ryan at NCG on 056-7796151

I will be facilitating the following two workshops on the day:

Weaving Wonder
Explore drawing using recycled and reused materials in our weave drawing workshop for families. Participants will 'draw' colourful 'spaces', shapes and layers through the weaving of treads, wool, rafia and collected plant material.
Facilitated by artist Tunde Toth
Saturday May 22nd, 11am – 1 pm

A Stitch in Time
Create a mini masterpiece in our stitch-drawing workshop for teenagers.
Facilitated by artist Tunde Toth
Saturday May 22nd, 2pm – 4pm

Outdoor project - Make Your Mark

Hundreds of flags flying on long willow rods aligned to Tibetan prayer flags, said to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom to both the flag planter and those in the vicinity, this is a unique opportunity to participate in a large, innovative installation in the Castle Yard by artists Marie Brett & Nic Piper.
Each flag bearer will be invited to draw their personal auspicious symbol, invocation, prayer or animal totem directly onto the flag before planting it into the ground, joining the larger community of intentions. Transitory in nature, the artwork will reflect a moments contemplation, an intention or wish, carried by the wind.
Saturday May 22nd, 12pm – 4pm, The Castle Yard

Not So Still Life
Bring along your sketchbook and do some observational drawing of the work in the Irish Craft Portfolio. Self guided.
Saturday May 22nd, all day

ARTIST'S TALK at The National Print Museum - Dublin - 22nd April 2010

Hello Everyone,

Now that the SUN has appeared for a while things are getting a lot busier... so finally I'm updating the blog with news and workshop information!

I will be giving a talk at the National Print Museum in Dublin (Beggars Bush, Haddington Road, Dublin4) on the 22nd of April - Thursday, at 7.30pm.
I teach workshops at the Print Museum a few times in a year - it's an inspiring and interesting place to visit in case if you don't know it yet!

Here is the information from the Museum's brochure:

Hand Papermaking and Paper Art – Traditional and contemporary practices at the 20th IAPMA Congress, Tasmania, Australia

Admission: Free

This illustrated talk offers an insight into Tunde’s experiences at the 20th IAPMA (International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists) Congress in Tasmania in 2009 where she had been invited to participate and give workshops on the experimental techniques she uses in silk fibre papermaking. Her three piece installation work Land Script – Copper Coast was selected for the New Paper – Old Land International Paper Art Exhibition at the same time. The talk follows her journey through the locations and events of the Congress – professional papermaking studios, galleries, artist’s presentations, specialised paper art workshops and wilderness tours – in a country of extraordinary landscapes and wildlife. The IAPMA Congress provided a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with over 130 international delegates and establish connections between networks and artists’ groups.

Dear Fiends and All,

Finally I got the chance to select a few images - from a large number of photographs - taken during the Land - Script workshops and art project in Kilkenny.

Truly beautiful pieces and an unusual exhibition space had been created!
A big Thank You to all who have participated!

WORKSHOP NEWS!!!

There are 4 places left available on the BATIK workshop on the 6th of February (see details below)
This is a one day course for beginners introducing traditional and contemporary techniques of the ancient art of BATIK - a fabric dyeing process where hot wax is used as a resist on a cloth... and we are hoping to have the time to try out some processes on handmade papers as well!

HAPPY NEW YEAR and BEST WISHES for all!!
